BALANCED DRIVES:  (Equal prey and defense drives). Show dogs generally have little or no prey and defense drives. They are bred for conformation with extreme angulation and have lost most of their solid nerves. A high majority of these dogs would be at a loss in an extreme situation. The show dogs in Europe must pass certain working qualifications but they are still seriously lacking  in their working ability from a true working German Shepherd. Sport lines (Schutzhund) which are usually not suitable for serious work are bred for sport. Their performance is based on a very high prey drive with almost no defense drives. Trained to perform for a reward of biting into the sleeve on the arm of the helper who is unknown to the dog. Many of these dogs may not protect their owner or territory against a treat in a real life situation. In realistic protection training the dog should have equal prey and defense drives. The decoy is viewed by the dog as a threat or enemy, not the carrier of the sleeve. The equipment a decoy wears is for protection from the dog, not targeted by the dog or the purpose of the attack. If you are looking for a versatile dog can also live as a calm and courageous member of your family  (as what the breed was originally intended for) you want a dog with balanced drives. This is the type of German Shepherds we are producing and importing. Why put the value of your families life or your own in the care of anything else?
